What LegitScript Certification Actually Verifies
When we mention a telehealth provider, we show a small badge next to its first mention indicating whether it holds LegitScript certification. This page explains what that badge does — and does not — mean.
What LegitScript is
LegitScript is an independent third party that verifies healthcare merchants. To certify a telehealth provider or online pharmacy, it checks that the business is properly licensed, prescribes legally, protects patient privacy, and markets its products honestly, and it monitors certified merchants on an ongoing basis. Google and Meta both require LegitScript certification before a telehealth or prescription advertiser can run ads in the US, which is why it has become the practical standard for legitimacy in this space.
What it does not verify
Certification is about legitimacy, not efficacy. It confirms that a provider operates legally and safely. It does not confirm that a specific medication will work for you, that a compounded formulation has trial data behind it, or that a provider is the best choice for your situation. We assess those separately, in each review.
What our badges mean
- ✅ LegitScript Certified — the provider currently holds LegitScript certification, as we last checked.
- ⚠️ Not LegitScript Certified — the provider is not certified. This is a fact, not an accusation: a provider can be legitimate without certification, but its absence is worth knowing.
- ❔ Certification not verified — we could not confirm the provider's status from an authoritative source, or the public information conflicts. We would rather say “we don't know” than guess.
Without fear or favour
The badge is applied the same way to every provider we mention, including ones we earn a commission from. If a provider we have an affiliate relationship with is not certified, its badge says so. A badge that only ever showed good news would be worthless — the whole point is that it is honest even when honesty is inconvenient for us. Keeping it current
Certification status can change. We re-check the providers we badge on a regular cadence and update them when a status changes. If you spot a badge that looks out of date, let us know — accuracy here matters more to us than tidiness.
